Shougang Young Worker Wang Tao Achieved High Marks in the 1st National Vocational Skills Competition

Wang Tao, from the Cooperation Company of Shougang Mining Co., Ltd., represented Beijing City in the welder group competition of the 1st Vocational Skills Competition of the People’s Republic of China, recently held in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, and won a prize for excellence.

The competition was composed of national finals and trials at the provincial (industry) level and below. Wang Tao and Zhang Zhao, welders from Shougang Mining Co., Ltd., participated in the trials in Beijing (the 5th Beijing Vocational Skills Competition) on behalf of Shougang Group and ranked in the top two after fierce competition. They were directly promoted to senior technicians. In the welder group competition, as the only contestant representing Beijing, Wang Tao overcame all the difficulties in his way and emerged as the best, reflecting his extremely high skill level and the achievements of Shougang Mining to strengthen the construction of its technical team. 

In recent years, firmly adhering to the concept that talents are the first resource, Shougang Mining has vigorously promoted the spirit of model workers, labor, and craftsmanship to build a team of skilled workers suitable for industrial development, and has strengthened skills improvement training for technical work types in short supply, critical and key posts, and transfer personnel to meet industrial needs. The company has taken advantage of its training bases, innovation studios, and skill masters to cultivate skilled personnel and improve operational levels and skills. In addition, the company has insisted on promoting learning by competition to enhance the enthusiasm of employees for learning and tap highly skilled talents, making full use of national policies related to vocational skills to promote the quality improvement training of all employees, and effectively enhance the comprehensive strength of its technical team. 

The 1st Vocational Skills Competition of the People’s Republic of China, sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, saw the participation of over 2,500 contestants and over 2,300 referees in a total of 86 events. It is the grandest and highest level comprehensive national professional skills competition with the largest number of events and of the largest scale held since the founding of the PRC.
