Recently, the 9th "Beiye Cup" Metallurgical Youth Academic Speech Contest organized by the Beijing Society for Metals concluded successfully at the Shougang Research Institute of Technology. Themed “Youth Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China”, the Speech Contest was participated in by 29 contestants from the eight member units of the China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group, General Research Institute for Nonferrous Metals, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Shougang Jingtang Iron and Steel Integrated Co., Ltd., Shougang Mining Company, Shougang Beiye Company, Shougang Research Institute of Technology and Shougang Institute of Technology. The Jury Committee consisted of seven experts including Che Yanmin, Director of the General Department of the Chinese Society for Metals.

At the Speech Contest, with different styles and splendid performances, contestants spoke about their own experience in scientific research, expressed new ideas and achievements in academic research or described typical cases of the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. The content of the speeches fully reflected the young people’s love for the Party and country in the new era, the fighting spirit of young scientific and technological workers who have the courage to innovate and take responsibility, and the unremitting pursuit of self-reliance and self-improvement by virtue of high-level science and technology, winning the excited approval of the audience.

In the end, after a fierce competition, Wen Xinli of the Shougang Beiye Company won the first prize for a speech entitled "The Party Trains Me to be a Talent, and I Follow the Party to Struggle"; Bai Fengxia and Meng Yang of the Shougang Research Institute of Technology and Gao Yang of the Shougang Beiye Company won the second prize; and six people including Wen Yue and Fu Yue from the Shougang Mining Company and Gao Qian from the Shougang Beiye Company won the third prize. Li Yanglong of the Shougang Research Institute of Technology won the Best Content Award, Wang Hui of the Shougang Mining Company won the Best Eloquence Award, and Zhong Wenjing of the Shougang Beiye Company won the Best Style Award. Five member units including the Shougang Mining Company, Shougang Beiye Company and Shougang Research Institute of Technology won the Best Organization Award.

After the Contest, Wen Xinli and Bai Fengxia from Shougang were unanimously recommended to take part in the 22nd Youth Academic Speech Contest organized by the Beijing Association for Science and Technology on behalf of the Beijing Society for Metals.

It is reported that the Youth Academic Speech Contest of the Beijing Society for Metals, as an important part of the Plan for Promoting the Growth of Young Scientific and Technological Talents of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, is an academic exchange platform set up by the Beijing Association for Science and Technology to train young scientific and technological talents for the capital. The contest is intended to combine high-end academia with popular speeches, provide young scientific and technological workers with opportunities to exchange their ideas and skills, display their talent, improve their ability and level in expressing academic views, promote the popularization of academic achievements and help them to grow into inheritors of scientific culture, practitioners of scientific and technological innovation, and volunteers for popular science dissemination.
