As the Beijing Winter Olympics draws near, the Shougang Ski Jump Platform, covered in white snow, stands out against the blue winter sky. Early in the morning of December 17th, reporters at the scene saw that the snowmaking of the Shougang Ski Jump Platform was under intense and orderly progress, and up to two meters of snow had piled up on the ski runs and buffer zone.
Despite the freezing weather, the on-site workers were enthusiastic. Racing against the clock, Shougang people worked with full momentum to ensure service support for the winter Olympics. Liu Yuchuan, Assistant of the Coordination Department of Shougang Construction Investment’s Ski Jump Platform Project, met reporters at the scene. He told them that snow can only be made from night to early morning due to the weather characteristics of Beijing, such as high daytime temperature, late cooling and short cold wave time. To ensure successful snowmaking, specialists need to monitor the weather and wind conditions, and start the equipment at the right time. After the equipment is started, they need to check the snowmaking process every hour to ensure the highest efficiency and quality of snowmaking.
The Shougang Ski Jump Platform officially started the snowmaking process on December 12th. All snowmaking tasks are expected to be completed around January 20th, 2022. During the snowmaking period, the ski runs of the Shougang Ski Jump Platform will have about 4,190 m2 of snow and the snow storage area will have about 1,000 m2 of snow. A total of 11,500 m3 of snow will be made.
