This year’s May Day holiday coincided with the transition of spring and summer, leading to pleasant weather. Shougang Park was crowded and lively, attracting not only many local citizens and tourists, but also numerous media outlets, making it a popular destination for “micro-vacations”. According to the relevant statistics, during the May Day holiday, as of 12:00 on the 5th, the cumulative number of visitors to the park reached 262,000, with the number of visitors on May 1st exceeding 65,000.

During the holiday, People’s Daily APP, xinhuanet.com, bjd.com, Beijing Youth Daily APP, Beijing Evening News, and many other media outlets visited and reported on Shougang Park. Through vivid content and rapid dissemination on the Internet, more people learned about Shougang Park, a trendy, fashionable, and vibrant new landmark. From 0:00 on May 1st to 12:00 on May 5th, there were 3,051 reports about Shougang Park from various media outlets, including 1,254 on websites, 305 on mobile APPs, 205 on WeChat, 642 on Weibo, 10 on paper media, and 635 on we-media.

During this year’s May Day holiday, Shougang Park offered a wide range of wonderful activities such as Trendy Sci-Fi Adventure Season, Beijing Craft Beer Festival, 2024 Supply and Marketing Fair, “NANA” Cup Sports Dance Tour Grand Prix (Beijing Station), YEAH Paradise - YEAH Life Festival and Live Music Performance in Wonderful Steel Town, Healthy Youth Games, Sunset Live Music Performance in Shougang Park, Sci-Fi Music Light Show, and “May Day” Cultural and Creative Market. Residents and tourists enjoyed the beautiful spring scenery while taking sightseeing tours, watching performances, experiencing sci-fi elements, and exploring market fairs; they embraced the spring sunshine and had a wonderful holiday.

In the park, “YEAH Paradise” in Wonderful Steel Town was set up in the North Square of Chang’an Mills with a creative market, pet-friendly interactive area, and sunset live music performance, allowing citizens and tourists to enjoy themselves from day to night. In the evening, the Sedimentation Tank Square of Chang’an Mills was lit up with beautiful notes and flowing melodies. When the “Sunset Music Party” in Big Air Shougang South Square kicked off passionately, the vibrant atmosphere was filled with the rhythm of music, marking the beginning of the nighttime economy in the park.

At Shangri-La Shougang Park, Beijing during the May Day holiday, parent-child camping rooms, spring dream-catcher children’s suites, and Qitian Spaceship-themed room packages sold well, with some popular room types “in high demand”. In the outdoor garden lawn leisure area of the hotel, a water gun battle brought coolness, while the “Fun Life Festival” launched activities such as doll welcome performances, fair bartending performances, intangible cultural heritage markets, and movie screenings. 

When the mellow aroma of beer permeated in the air, holiday time became intoxicating. The Beijing Craft Beer Festival held in CIFTIS Hall 14 in Shougang Park provided high-quality craft beer from various brands, leaving participants thoroughly satisfied. On May 1st, just three hours after the opening of the beer festival, more than 1,500 visitors had entered the venue. A young couple said, “There’s quite a variety of beer here, and it’s a great place to drink and explore.” A man bought a few cases of beer and was going to take them home to share with his family. Several young ladies were holding beer and snacks, laughing all the way while saying, “Duck and beer, that’s our favorite”.

With the refreshing taste of beer, in the vibrant rhythm and music of the “Fanatic Party”, the group fitness dance instantly ignited people’s passion. Girls dancing and waving their arms said, “The atmosphere is so great that I want to move when I hear the music!” Yang Kai, the manager of the “Fanatic Party”, believes that Shougang Park has a great environment that is suitable for large-scale outdoor sports and entertainment gatherings. “At this beer festival’s ‘Fanatic Party’, a lot of Zumba (an aerobic fitness dance) enthusiasts joined us in exercising and keeping fit, leaving unforgettable memories,” Yang Kai said. “We look forward to another opportunity to visit Shougang Park in the future to bring larger-scale fitness courses so that everyone can enjoy the fun of fitness.”

Beer, music, and hot dancing created a unique atmosphere for Shougang Park during the festival. Additionally, the Trendy Sci-Fi Adventure Season of the Beijing Science Fiction Carnival at the China Science Fiction Convention and Blast Furnace No. 1 SoReal Science Fiction Paradise presented a sci-fi feast full of creativity. At Blast Furnace No. 1 SoReal Science Fiction Paradise, two little boys put on admission bracelets and could barely wait to watch the nebula shuttle animation and experience the VR projects. Their parents told reporters, “This is our family’s first visit to Shougang Park, and we’re delighted by its liveliness.” As soon as sci-fi fans entered the park, they rushed to Blast Furnace No. 1 to experience the VR projects. They also went to the Trendy Sci-Fi Adventure Season site to interact with robots and buy sci-fi literature books, experiencing the fun brought by science fiction.

In addition, the Supply and Marketing Fair and Cultural and Creative Market set up by Shougang Park not only stimulated consumption, but also made the park livelier. Handmade products with diverse styles and materials, fulfilling the DIY experience, and other trendy and interesting stuff were so attractive that citizens and tourists could not resist staying longer. The traditional “raree-show” in old Beijing was full of emotions, not only evoking the memories of the older generation, but also attracting young people to watch and experience, especially children. It is particularly worth mentioning that the consumption of cultural tourism with Shougang elements was in full swing: the “5G Steel” postcard representing the advanced level of steel manufacturing won praise, while the soft and thin “filamentous steel” and various color threads were woven into coiling works.
