Shougang Tonghua Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (“Tonghua Iron & Steel”) is a large iron and steel enterprise based in Jilin Province, and a key enterprise supporting the national revitalization of the old industrial base in Northeast China. Founded in June 1958, Tonghua Iron & Steel has developed into an iron and steel giant that integrates mining, beneficiation, sintering, coking, ironmaking, steelmaking and steel rolling. In July 2010, it was reorganized with Shougang and became the main steel production base of the Shougang Group in Northeast China.

Headquartered in Tonghua City of Jilin Province, Tonghua Iron & Steel has 11 management departments, three management institutions, seven production units and jurisdiction over ten enterprises, including Jilin Tonghua Iron & Steel International Trade Co., Ltd., Jilin Tonghua Iron & Steel Automation Information Technology Co., Ltd. (Tonghua Iron & Steel Information Center), Huinan Steel Rolling Co., Ltd., Jilin Welded Pipe Co., Ltd., Tonghua Iron & Steel Panshi Seamless Steel Tube Co., Ltd. and Tonghua Iron & Steel Mining Co., Ltd., which are mainly distributed in Tonghua City, Baishan City, Changchun City, Jilin City, Yanbian Prefecture and other places in Jilin Province.

For more than 60 years, Tonghua Iron & Steel has always worked hard, forged ahead and shared weal and woe with the country. With the strong support of Shougang, Tonghua Iron & Steel initiated the elimination and replacement of outdated production capacity in an all-round way, vigorously promoted structural adjustment and product upgrading, completed the large-scale, modern and intelligent transformation of its process equipment, and entered the national list of enterprises meeting the standard conditions of the steel industry, thereby consolidating the foundations for its survival and development, and further enhancing its market competitiveness. Its main equipment includes five coke ovens (two 55-hole coke ovens, one 60-hole coke oven, one 65-hole coke oven and one 50-hole coke oven); two 360 m2 sintering machines and one grate-rotary kiln pelletizing production line; two 2,680 m3 blast furnaces; three 120 ton top-bottom combined blowing steelmaking converters, two eight-machine eight-stream square billet casters and two one-machine one-stream thin slab casters; and one 1,560 mm hot rolled ultra-thin strip steel production line, one high-strength mechanical manufacturing steel production line, one high-speed wire rod production line, one small-scale production line, one seamless steel tube rolling production line, one welded steel tube rolling production line, etc. Its main products include plates, building materials, extra-fine steel and pipes which are mainly used in construction, transportation, electric power construction, water conservancy projects, automobiles, mechanical processing, oil exploitation and other industries. Eleven of its products have won the National Golden Cup Award for the Physical Quality of Metallurgical Products, and seven have won the title of Excellent Quality Products in the Metallurgical Industry in Jilin Province. Based in Northeast China, its products are sold to East China, South China and North China, and have been used in key projects such as the Shenzhen Metro, Beijing National Grand Theatre, Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, 2008 Olympic Games venues, Xiong'an New Area, Beijing-Harbin Expressway, Beijing-Shenyang Railway and Dalian Cross-harbor Tunnel.

In 2016, the Central Economic Work Conference launched supply-side structural reform. Tonghua Iron & Steel actively responded to the call of the nation by actively reducing its ironmaking capacity by 800,000 tons and steelmaking capacity by 600,000 tons, which received the full affirmation of the State Council. In 2018, Tonghua Iron & Steel adhered to enterprise management in accordance with the laws and regulations, and comprehensively implemented quantitative thinking, data-based management and standardized operations, thereby attaining its highest operating level in the last ten years. In 2019, with the strong support of the central government and the efficient promotion of the governments of Beijing and Jilin, Tonghua Iron & Steel realized debt, asset and business optimization through judicial reorganization. In 2021, Tonghua Iron & Steel balanced pandemic prevention and control with operations and production, and got off to a smooth start to in the 14th Five-year Plan period, with its total industrial output value and operating revenue increasing by 45% and 48% respectively. In 2022, the cadres and workers of Tonghua Iron & Steel overcame multiple pressures from the pandemic, markets and capital, tapped potential according to advanced standards, streamlined management, grew stronger and made continuous progress in all work, maintaining overall stability. Tonghua Iron & Steel deepened its integrated operation on the iron production front and ensured the stable operation of the blast furnaces, with the annual daily output of pig iron and utilization coefficient breaking historical records 71 times. Tonghua Iron & Steel unswervingly promoted the No. 3 Blast Furnace Energy-saving Upgrading Project with equal replacement in different places. The No. 6 Coke Oven produced coke on December 18th, and the newly-built CDQ Project was smoothly promoted, effectively making up for the shortcomings of the process. Tonghua Iron & Steel was also named "Civilized Unit of Jilin Province 2019–2021" and rated as a model unit in the professional ethics construction of employees in Jilin Province.

After going through many ups and downs, Tonghua Iron & Steel has achieved brilliant achievements and created profound cultural heritage. It has successively won honorary titles and awards such as National Advanced Grassroots Party Organization, National Advanced Collective of Creating "Four Good" Teams, National Excellent Enterprise of Ideological and Political Work, National May Day Labor Award and National Advanced Unit of Spiritual Civilization Construction.

Tonghua Iron & Steel stays true to the original intentions, always keeps the mission in mind, shoulders the sacred duty of serving the country and benefiting the people through industries, and plays an important role in promoting the economic development of Jilin Province and driving the regional prosperity of Tonghua City. In the last five years, Tonghua Iron & Steel has paid a total of RMB 2.456 billion in taxes despite its difficulties, which reflects its social responsibility as a state-owned enterprise.
