Shougang Beiye Wins Another Bidding for Magnetic Pole Processing Project of Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Shougang Beiye recently won the bidding for the High-Energy Synchrotron Radiation Light Source In-Vacuum Undulator Magnetic Material Mass Production (Second Package) Magnetic Pole Processing Project of the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, which is another such project won by Beiye after October 2020.

The High-Energy Synchrotron Radiation Light Source Project commenced in June 2019 and is undertaken by the Institute of High-Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The exterior of the building resembles a magnifying glass, implying a powerful tool for probing the microscopic world. The structures to be constructed mainly include the accelerator, intensifier, energy storage environment, long beam station and auxiliary facilities. The construction cycle is 6.5 years, and it is expected to be completed and put into use by the end of 2025. The light source will provide important support for original and groundbreaking innovation and research in basic science, engineering science and other fields, and will be widely used in China’s aerospace, energy, environmental protection, medicine, bioengineering and other fields.

The magnetic pole materials of the in-vacuum and out-of-vacuum undulators of the high-energy synchrotron radiation light source are the core components mainly used to produce the required alternating magnetic field in the ultra-high vacuum chamber. As such, Beiye has set up a special project research team composed of one professor-level senior engineer, six senior engineers, three engineers and one assistant engineer. The core team members have been engaged in the research and production of soft magnetic materials for more than 20 years. After winning the project, the team moved quickly to tackle key problems. Through the scientific formulation of the process route and several rounds of experiments, the team finally developed and produced high-performance magnetic pole materials with key indexes far higher than the current national standards, contributing to the construction of China’s major technological infrastructure.

According to experts, the synchrotron radiation light source, also known as a “synchrotron light”, consists of electromagnetic radiation emitted along the tangent direction by charged particles at a speed close to the speed of light as they move in a curve. Characterized by strong penetrability, high brightness, high intensity and a wide energy spectrum, the synchrotron radiation light source help humans to see microscopic worlds that are invisible to the naked eye. The synchrotron radiation light source has become an indispensable experimental tool for cutting-edge scientific research and industrial application. The brightness of the fourth-generation synchrotron radiation light source is 100–1,000 times higher than that of the third-generation version.
